As the body which oversees the (Data & Marketing Association) Code, we we are here to give effective protection to recipients, users and practitioners of direct marketing. We aim to ensure companies observe the highest standards of integrity and trade fairly with their customers and with each other.Compliance with data protection legislation is clearly critical and we have been working hard to ensure that we were well positioned to respond to The Data Protection and Digital Information Bill.Notwithstanding recent developments, we remain committed to fulfilling our role under the current regulatory regime. We will continue to monitor any updates closely to ensure we do all we can to work proactively in supporting industry and the consumer as they navigate these fast-evolving developments.Find out more about the DMC at https://lnkd.in/gSqrGhqqEmma Martins; Quinton Quayle; Gilbert Hill; Robert Bond; Kate Staples

Report stage of the DPDI set for 10-12 June; no amendments have been tabled but when they are, they will appear here https://lnkd.in/eJujvJA9. The Third Reading will appear after these dates but there is a good chance the DPDI Bill will become law by the Summer Recess

Consumers are increasingly aware of and interested in the ethical temperature of the businesses and organisations they interact with. This recent survey highlights how this awareness particularly impacts relationships with SME’s.We are also much more alive to the way in which our personal data is handled and this is linked to questions of ethical conduct – both in terms of impacts on individuals as well as on the environment. Our role at the DMC is to oversee the code(https://lnkd.in/dy2hVYG) which sets the standard of conduct for the marketing industry. The code is so much more than a set of rules, it is a set of values which seek to put the customer first. When the regulatory requirements chime with commercial incentives, that’s when meaningful and positive change can happen.https://lnkd.in/gRXfzzEe

We were very pleased to join the yesterday for their annual Data Conference. There was lots of discussion around the DPDI Bill as well as the impacts of Artificial Intelligence on our industry and beyond. Great to hear from Julia Lopez MP, Stephen Almond from the ICO, as well as Lord Clement-Jones who always talks so insightfully about regulation in the world of new technologies.A common theme across all speakers and sectors is the need for ethical frameworks, trust and confidence. Toju Duke gave us all a stark reminder of when those things are not built in.Emma Martins; Kate Staples; Robert Bond;Quinton Quayle;Gilbert Hill
