Gameplay, scoring, and rules

Informally, any number can play volleyball. In competition each team consists of six players, three of whom take the forward positions in a row close to and facing the net, the other three playing the back court.

Varsity sports must follow NCAA and Patriot League rules and regulations (American University is a Division 1 school). Practices and games are mandatory and travel is required to play other universities.
